Our variable investment platform

At Sun Life Financial, we’ve taken great care in selecting a variety of money managers and funds for our variable product platform. We make selections based on both quantitative and qualitative factors. While no selection process can guarantee positive results, our goal is to offer a selection of managers that can deliver consistent and sustainable long-term investment results.

Each firm must have both expertise in a particular type of investing and a disciplined process aimed at achieving sound investment results. We strive to ensure that our investment lineup will help you reach your retirement goals by doing the following:

Quantitative screening. Once we’ve identified the funds that fit our objectives, we assess multiple data points such as peer comparisons, historical relative and risk-adjusted performance, portfolio characteristics, and style consistency.

Qualitative analysis. We evaluate each firm’s experience, investment style, philosophy, and adherence to compliance and regulatory policies as well as their overall reputation in the industry.

Continual monitoring. We regularly monitor each firm and portfolio to ensure that they continue to meet their investment objectives. Once a fund has been added to our platform, we reserve the right to replace it.

The fund or funds managed or subadvised by the investment firms listed above are not retail mutual funds and are available for purchase only through the separate accounts of insurance companies. The funds may not be available in all Sun Life Financial variable products.
